So I have been at this blogging thing for a little over a month now, and all in all, I must say that I have enjoyed my first month. I'm looking forward to see how my life will change and how my blog will reflect any changes in the coming year.
However, there has been a common theme underlying the feedback I have gotten as a result of the Hose Monster Blog. I've heard that I am weird and I have too much time on my hands.
I'll agree with the weird part. And ostensibly I might agree with the too much time part, but only because in the waning weeks of my job, I have little to do at times. So I occupy my time with my blog.
But I wonder if my dear readers (and yes, you are dear, each and every one of you) are saying I have too much time because of the content of the blog. If that's the reason behind the argument, then my answer is absolutely not.
I may be defensive because in keeping this blog, I'm filling a very important need in my life. A need to create.
So it's not a painting, or a book, or even something remotely redeeming on some social level. I'm still creating some kind of art through the imaginary conversations I have in my head, through the images I select to put on my site, through the way I present myself. Even with the links I give you to other sites, I'm in some way telling you about myself and creating something sensory for you to enjoy.
So maybe I don't have too much time on my hands. Maybe I'm simply exploring my creativity in new ways.
Or maybe I just need to get down off of my soapbox.
